Many people go on trips when they take vacation, and others stay home to relax, and to get away from the every day rat race they endure at work. In my case, the latter represents my situation. I would rather rest, enjoy the peace around the house and of course, take care of mom, an elderly woman who needs all the help and care at age 80 that she deems to need every day.
Surely as it is for allot of people who go on vacation, I tend to seem to work more at home during this time, and anxiously await for vacation to end so I think I can rest. Be that this statement is so far from the truth, the truth is that getting back into the regular grind at work seems to be more natural, and relaxing in some cases. Many people would agree with me on this statement, but others would say that a vacation is not truly a vacation unless you get away from all of your normal personal surroundings and travel, spend money and experience enjoyment for the entire time of your vacation. Unfortunately, I've never experienced this. As an example, since I married my wife just three years ago, my wife and I have yet to go on a 'honeymoon' or truly experience a vacation together, away from mom.
But we both realize that we must take care of business first, and then maybe pleasure later. It all takes time, so in most every case, especially within the last 3 years, I've taken vacation at home. But like I said earlier, sometimes a vacation at home is a good thing. It does accomplish two things. First, you get away from the every day, daily routine, and second, you can stay home and save money.
So I do appreciate every minute of vacation that I have these days, but knowing that work will be around the corner once again is a relief factor too. I enjoy my work, and I enjoy the people that surround me on my job, especially my clients.
Anyone who feels that staying home on vacation is punishment, and not truly a vacation, needs to step back for one moment and at least realize that they are actually getting paid to stay at home during vacation time. What you choose to do with your time is totally up to them and it is important to use the time wisely. For me, getting things done while on vacation will make me feel that the time spend was worth while. For others, just getting to stay at home and be a 'couch potato' is a wonderful thing. In any case, you should be thankful for your time.
